Using traditional Chinese medicine to target cellular aging accurately: the latest developments in r
NDDs, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD) and Huntington's disease (HD), are extremely serious health challenges, especially in the elderly population. Cellular aging, through irreversible cell cycle stagnation and cell secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines, has been a key factor in the formation of these pathways. The aggregation of aging cells in the nervous system exacerbates neuroinflammation, affects the function of neurons, and accelerates tissue degradation, which are important characteristics of NDDs.
In this context, the bioactive components of TCM derived from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have received widespread attention for their potential to regulate cell aging and mitigate neurodegeneration. This review examines shared molecular signaling pathways that link cell aging to NDDs. In addition, it explores the translational potential of TCM-derived drugs, such as acupuncture, almond extracts, and zinc ethanol-intervention in the aging process.
